One witness said they were moved inside a storage area, and asked not to use their phones.

Police scrambled to the hospital and are thought to be hunting an individual.

According to Troy Police, the threat was sent via social media.

It involved a patient at the hospital, who alerted hospital security.

Troy Police Department tweeted: “We are investigating a threats complaint at Troy Beaumont Hospital.

“The hospital has initiated a lockdown.”

A hospital spokesperson said in a statement that there was "an active threat of violence."

"Due to active threat of violence, Beaumont Troy is currently on lockdown.

"Visitors can leave but won't be permitted back in.

"Patients who arrive via ambulance, have life-threatening injuries or are in labour are permitted only through the Emergency entrance."

About 45 minutes after the alert was raised and Beaumont was placed on lockdown, hospital officials said: “We no longer believe there is a threat at Beaumont Hospital, Troy and we have lifted our lockdown.”

Police said the threat did not involve an active shooter.

Other details were not released.

“We are still investigating the threat, but believe there is no current threat to Troy Beaumont Hospital,” the department wrote on Twitter.
