NEW PHILADELPHIA Rainy weather has delayed work on repairing Boy Scout Road in Fairfield Township, but Tuscarawas County officials are still hopeful that it can be completed by next month.
"We have a tentative completion date of June 1, but it depends on the weather," said county Assistant Engineer Wayne Crilow. "We might make it, but we will have to have good luck with the weather."
Because of the frequent rains, workers with Dennison Bridge haven't been able to get out to do drainage work, he said. Dennison Bridge has the $226,841 contract to make repairs.
Boy Scout Road has been closed since January 2017 after a 150-foot section of the road collapsed about a half-mile north of Camp Tuscazoar. County officials blamed the slippage on construction of a parking lot at a business on the highway.
Crilow said Dennison Bridge employees have already completed work on a retaining wall along the road.
"We had just got to the point where it was dry enough to do some dirt work," he said, but the weather forecast for next week is calling for rain Monday through Thursday. "Hopefully we can get started in the next couple of weeks, depending on the weather."
