Lake County Captains top Quad Cities, 5-3

Moline, Ill.>> The Lake County Captains took advantage of a rain delay to come away with a 5-3 victory over Quad Cities on May 12.

The Captains were trailing, 3-2, when the rain began in the bottom of the seventh.

The River Bandits changed pitchers in the eighth, bringing in Robert Corniel. And that’s when Lake County went to work.

Jorma Rodriguez, who is batting .354, led off with a single and moved to third on Nolan Jones’ single to center and a throwing error on the center fielder. Jonathan Laureana then singled both runners home.

After a Will Benson walk and a forceout moved Laureana to third, Todd Isaacs singled him home to cap the rally.

The Captains scored two runs in the sixth on Ernie Clement’s single followed by Rodriguez’s RBI double and Jones RBI single.

Kyle Nelson (3-0, 0.00 ERA) got the win for the Captains with two inning of scoreless relief.

Kirk McCarty started the game for Lake County. He pitched five innings, giving up three runs on eight hits. He struck out five.
