After inspecting Khairabad region of Sitapur which was recently in news for stray dog attacks, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that families not having latrines on their premises would get toilets on a priority basis.

Khairabad region was witness to the death of 12 children in attacks by stray dogs between November and May this year.

Announcing a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to those families, who lost their kid in the feral canine attacks and Rs 25,000 to those, who were left injured, the CM also asked administrative officials to start an awareness campaign about the feral dogs. He later met families who lost their little ones in these attacks.

“It is sad that families lost their children in these attacks. The government has asked experts from IVRI Bareilly and Mathura to suggest preventive steps so that these incidents ddod not recur,” the Chief Minister said.

Yogi later visited Gurpallia in Khaiarbad and met the family of Mobin and Khalid, both 12 years of age, who died in stray dog attack. He also met other families in Reserve Police Lines, Sitapur. He also went to District Hospital and met the injured.

“All these attacks were reported when children went out to answer nature’s call or were playing in orchards. The district administration should ensure that villagers in all terror0infested villages should have toilets. The administration should declare these villages ODF at the earliest,” Yogi said.

The CM said that the terror of stray dogs was apparent in 22 villages. “The administration should set up security team in these villages as well as also should also make people aware about the nature of these attacks,” he said.

“What I gather is that these attacks were carried out by dogs, who are not domestic and have turned violent due to various reasons. The teams from IVRI Bareilly and Mathura have been asked to carry out a study and suggest preventive steps,” he said.

Meanwhile, opposition leaders attacked Yogi for his late visit to Sitapur. In a statement, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said that the CM woke up only after he raised the issue. “The government has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh which is peanuts. The victim’s family should get at least Rs 10 lakh,” Yadav said in the statement.
