Unidentified miscreants struck terror in Kasganj

Unidentified miscreants, suspected to be members of criminal nomadic tribes, struck terror in Kasganj by brutally assaulting half a dozen inmates of a house and looted belongings worth several lakh rupees late on Thursday night.While three inmates succumbd to their injuries, three other were battling for their lives at the district hospital. 

Agitated with the incident, hundreds of locals and kin of the victims set up a huge blockade and placed the victims’ bodies on the road. They demanded compensation and jobs for the victims’ family members. 

The protestors alleged police apathy leading to the incident and continued the sit on for over four hours before senior officers including ADG (Agra Zone) reached the spot. The top cop assured prompt action and also promised to take up their demands with the government after which the blockade was lifted. 

Later, ADG (law and order) Anand Kumar said that teams were formed to crack down the case and arrest the culprits. He said that directions have been given to all district police chiefs of the region to remain vigilant and avert similar incidents. He also ordered beefing up of patrol on railway and bus stations and those pockets were outsiders stay at night. 

Sleuths of Special Task Force (STF) have also been pressed into action to help the local police in identifying the gang behind the incident.

As per reports, half a dozen miscreants armed with sticks and rods barged into the house of Balwant Singh in Nabinagar area of Sahawar police station area late Thursday night. Threatening them, the brigands tied the family members with a bed and started beating them with sticks. When some of them shouted for help, the miscreants stabbed three inmates including Balwant’s wife Champa Devi (70), daughter-in-law Maya Devi (48) and Ramdas Pal (60). The miscreants later stashed cash and valuables and fled after locking the house from outside. 

After Balwant raised an alarm, his neighbours rushed in and shifted them to hospital and informed the police which reached the spot an hour after the incident. 

At the hospital, Champa Devi, Maya Devi and Ramdas Pal were pronounced dead upon arrival. The condition of Balwant’s son Raj Kumar Pal (55), his daughter Aarti (18), son Ajay Pal (16) was stated to be `critical’. A case was registered by the police and investigations were on.
