After widespread criticism on the hasty decision of the Ravenshaw University authorities in declaring sine die in the midst of the term-end examinations on Tuesday, the authorities on Friday decided to rescind its decision and announced that the sine die order would be lifted at 5 pm on Saturday.“

The students shall be allowed to enter into the campus from Saturday evening and they can appear the remaining examinations on the rescheduled dates,” announced Vice-Chancellor Ishan Patro after holding discussions with the University Staff Council.

Sources said the dates of remaining examinations of undergraduate and postgraduate students would be rescheduled and be held between May 17 and 20. The VC, however, stuck to his earlier decision that the students would have to vacate their hostels by May 27.

“We cannot carry the repair, maintenance and sanitation works required for the hostels, unless the students vacate the hostels,” the Vice-Chancellor said, adding that if the students do not follow the instructions now, the authorities cannot be held responsible for any lacunae in the new session.

Following student unrest throughout the day on Tuesday protesting against the decision to vacate the hostels, the authorities had declared sine die late on Tuesday evening, asking the students to vacate the campus by 10 pm on Wednesday.
