The fate of 147 candidates will be sealed in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) as 11 constituencies in Mysuru district will go to polls on Saturday.

A total of 24,93,407 voters – including 12,51,642 men, 12,41,576 women and 189 others – will cast their votes in 2,860 polling booths in the district. The polling will be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. A total of 23,646 voters are differently-abled.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and friend-turned-foe and JD(S) candidate G.T. Deve Gowda have been locked in a fierce battle in Chamundeshwari constituency, one of the key constituencies in the State that witnessed high-voltage electioneering. Yathindra is testing his political waters in Varuna constituency, which incidentally has the highest number of candidates in the fray.

A total of 14,300 officials, including 2,860 presiding officers, 2,860 assistant presiding officers, and 8,580 polling officers, have been roped in to conduct the polls at Chamundeshwari, Varuna, Krishnaraja, Chamaraja, Narasimharaja, Nanjangud, K.R. Nagar, T. Narsipur, Hunsur, H.D. Kote and Periyapatna constituencies in the district. Chamundeshwari segment, comprising Mysuru taluk and parts of Mysuru city, has highest number of polling booths – 335.

Three polling stations have been identified where the differently-abled will oversee polling without any help. Booth number 213 at Haniyamballi in Varuna constituency, booth number 75 at Shiramalli in Nanjangud, and booth number 86 at PU College in Shivapura in Krishnaraja constituency have been identified as ‘People with Disabilities Polling Stations’.

Meanwhile, mustering centres from across the district were abuzz with activity with the presiding and polling officers reporting to the centres since morning to collect the election materials – EVMs, VVPATs, indelible ink vials and other items.

Each polling booth will consist of five officials. Two police personnel will be deployed.

Critical booths will have personnel from the central paramilitary force. Many officials cast their postal ballot before leaving to their stations. Postal ballots can be cast until May 14.
