NOIDA: A case of attempt to murder has been registered against slain gangster Balraj Bhati (43), who was shot dead in an encounter by Uttar Pradesh and Haryana special task force teams on April 23 in Noida.
The complaint was filed by Ajay Kumar Giri, a salesman, who was mistakenly shot at during the encounter. He was rushed to a private hospital and survived.

Bhati, a former sharpshooter of Sunder Bhati gang, carried a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh on his head — one lakh each from the Delhi and Haryana police and Rs 50,000 from the Uttar Pradesh police.

Two personnel of Gurgaon STF — head constables Raj Kumar (34) and Bhupinder (36)—and three civilians including Giri were injured in the shootout.

On Friday, Giri reached Sector 39 police station and filed a complaint against Bhati for attempt to murder.

He said that he was on the way to deliver disposable items to a client in the area when he was caught in crossing firing and was injured.

“I was rushed to district hospital but they discharged me without proper treatment next day. I had to get treatment for my injuries in a private hospital,” he said.

Anil Kumar Shahi, station house officer, Sector 39 police station, said based on a complaint, an FIR has been registered against the accused under Section 307 of IPC.

The police, meanwhile, have procured footage of CCTV cameras from adjacent Bikaner Sweets and are still investigating the matter.
