BJP legislators were involved in a spat on Saturday in the presence of state agriculture minister Prabhulal Saini during a review meeting in Kota.

The meeting was held on the district collectorate premises to review performance of departments. Rajasthan assembly polls are due by the year-end.

The tiff started when Ladpura MLA Bhawani Singh Rajawat objected to a proposed underpass construction at Banda Dharampura village that falls in the Ramganjmandi constituency. Rajawat pressed for civic facilities, such as drains and roads, at the village, instead of an underpass.

Kota North MLA Prahlad Gunjal warned Rajawat against opposing the construction of an underpass. “Netaji (Rajawat), you mind your own work and do not create hindrance, otherwise I will also create obstruction to your work,” Gunjal told Rajawat.

Gunjal also turned offensive towards Ramganjmandi MLA Chandrakanta Meghwal. “I brought such people to politics who did not have stature and now they are behaving in this manner,” he said, indirectly referring for Meghwal.

Reacting to Gunjal’s barbs, Meghwal shot back, “If I am nobody, then you are also nobody…If you have problem in my association with BJP, then kindly let me know… How dare you speak about me like this? If I am nobody, then it is the problem of my parents and husband; Why you are concerned?”

Saini intervened to pacify the MLAs. The meeting continued, but media persons were kept out of it.

Chandrakanta said she would complain to chief minister Vasundhara Raje about Gunjal’s behaviour towards “a lady MLA.”

District collector Gaurav Goyal and officials were present at the review meeting.
