Man found with throat partially slit

Police register case for attempted murder

A 50-year-old man was found with his throat partially slit in his own backyard at Muvattupuzha on Friday morning.

The injured, identified as Unnikrishnan of Muvattupuzha, was admitted to Kolancherry Medical College, and his condition remains critical with his windpipe also found ruptured.

The Muvattupuzha police have registered a case for attempted murder, though officials suspect it to be more of a case of attempted suicide. The knife used to inflict the wound was recovered from the kitchen. A widower with two adult children, the man was found lying near the cremation site of his wife. He once used to be a dairy farmer but had no proper job of late, the police said.

Unnikrishnan was first found by his son’s friend. He raised an alarm, following which neighbours rushed Unnikrishnan to hospital where ENT surgeons performed an emergency surgery.

Though his respiratory ability has been restored, he remains under observation in the intensive care unit.

The police are waiting to record a statement of the injured.
