Match 43, Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur 11 May, 2018

Toss won by Chennai Super Kings (decided to bat)

Rajasthan Royals beat Chennai Super Kings by 4 wickets

Man of the Match: Jos Buttler

Highlights

23:47(IST)

The Rajasthan Royals have chased the target down after looking they are down and out. Excellent innings from Jos Buttler who remained unbeaten on 95*. 8 needed of three balls, Buttler managed to power a maximum over mid-wicket, before running two (including one of an over throw) of the penultimate ball to seal a four wicket win for the hosts in Jaipur.

23:45(IST)

SIX: After a missed chance to get Buttler, he hammers Bravo for a maximum and they need two of two.

23:42(IST)

David Willey bowled the 19th over and two big sixes from the young all-rounder K Gowtham has brought the Royals back in contention for the win. They need 12 of the last over with the in-form Buttler set to take strike in the final over.

23:41(IST)

WICKET: After bring the Royals back into contention, K Gowtham has edged it to MS Dhoni of the bowling of David Willey who has been very expensive tonight. Buttler will face the final over as the Royals are 165/6 with 6 balls to go and 12 runs to win.

23:35(IST)

After 18 overs, the Royals are staring at defeat against the experienced CSK. Buttler is still at the batting crease on 81 and has been joined by K Gowtham after the Stuart Binny's initial efforts to pick up the pace of the chase saw him perish in a fashion that won't please him. All eyes will be on Buttler now to take the Royals home, but one senses that Dhoni has this planned out. He usually does in these situations. The Royals are 149/5

23:32(IST)

WICKET: After smashing it over long-on for a maximum, Stuart Binny's (22) attempt at another big shot takes a leading edge and the catch is taken by Shane Watson at cover. Bravo has a wicket to his name and CSK are inching closer to the win.

23:29(IST)

The 18th over is being bowled by the experienced Dwayne Bravo and he is definitely going to use his slower deliveries to bamboozle the in-form Buttler.

23:29(IST)

Big over for the CSK side as David Willey concedes eight runs at a time when Buttler and Binny needed more than 15 of the over. The pressure is on the Royals, and even though Buttler is managing the odd boundary an over, that won't be enough to get home in this chase. The early momentum is gone and the tide has shifted towards the CSK. Royals are 139/4 after 17 overs.

23:23(IST)

Nine runs of the over from the experienced Shane Watson as Jos Buttler struggles to adjust to the slower pace of the ball in the second half of the innings. Buttler, in his attempt to up the ante almost got caught and bowled as Watson let the ball slip through his hands above his head. Buttler though improvises with a reverse sweep to get a move on in the 16th over and take the score to 131/4

23:18(IST)

15 overs through for the Royals in the chase. Thakur's over after the time out started well for the Royals as they picked up seven runs of the first three balls, before the fast bowler applied the brakes on the batsmen. Buttler hasn't gotten a move on in the over and will need to do so soon. Royals are 122/4 after 15.

23:12(IST)

End of the 14th over, as Ravindra Jadeja finishes his quota of overs. Another 5 runs only of the over for the Royals who can only rotate the strike in the over and have to do without the big shots. Buttler has been joined by Stuart Binny and both will need to be watchful as a wicket at this stage could spell doom for the hosts. Royals are 114/4 after 14 overs.

23:09(IST)

That’s Thakur’s 9th IPL wicket this season. A look at the leading wicket-takers for CSK this season: -

  1. 9 – S Thakur
  2. 7 – Bravo/Jadeja/H Singh
  3. 6 – D Chahar/S Watson/I Tahir
23:08(IST)

Another good over from Shardul Thakur as the pressure builds on the hosts, Rajasthan Royals. The hosts take five runs of the over and even though they get the crucial boundary, there is not much more that has gone their way in the last few overs. Buttler is watching on from the other end with the Royals at 109/4 after 13 overs.

23:05(IST)

WICKET: Simple catch to Dwayne Bravo as the debutant Chopra hits two boundaries in his first innings before chipping it to the midwicket fielder to give Shardul Thakur a wicket. MS Dhoni's plans once again working well and the Royals are under the cosh at 109/4.

23:03(IST)

STAT ATTACK: After starting with three half-centuries on the bounce, Samson has now failed to score beyond 30 in his last four innings.

23:02(IST)

End of the 12th over, and it is another good one by the experienced Bravo. Five runs of the over, with a boundary to the new man Prashant Chopra for the Royals while CSK will be happy to have seen the back of Sanju Samson who can be dangerous once set. Royals are 104/3 after 12.

22:59(IST)

WICKET: Complete comedy of errors with miscommunication gifting the CSK side a wicket when the Royals were just getting their noses ahead. Samson sacrifices his wicket as Dwayne Bravo comfortably takes the throw from Raina and runs him out. Buttler stands at the other end with his head down knowing that this could have been avoided. Royals are 99/3

22:57(IST)

David Willey is brought back into the attack by Dhoni and once again both Buttler and Samson show patience and application as they rotate the strike in the first part of the over, before a streaky boundary comes by at third man. Willey gave away 10 runs of the over. Royals are 99/2 after 11 overs.

22:51(IST)

Captain cool MS Dhoni brings on Dwayne Bravo for the 10th over of the innings, and the experienced all-rounder does well to bring in the variations of pace right from the word go. Both the batsmen find it difficult to get him away as he bowls four dot balls. Royals take three of the over and at the half way stage are 88/2. They need another 89 runs of the final 10 overs.

22:49(IST)

STAT ATTACK: Jos Buttler who has scored four 50s on the bounce, needs another 24 runs to reach the 400 run mark in this season's IPL

22:44(IST)

End of Shardul Thakur's second over of the innings and he gets taken for seven runs in the over. Samson and Buttler are ensuring there is one boundary in every over to keep the run rate in check while they rotate the strike when the bad ball doesn't come about. Royals are 85/2 after 9 overs.

22:39(IST)

Another good over for the Royals as Karn Sharma is taken for some runs, even if it isn't all in the most convincing manner. Samson's powerful sweep shot was well saved by Sam Billings at the square-leg boundary, but that was followed up by a four at third man of the edge of the Buttler's bat. Karn Sharma conceded 11 runs of the over. Royals are 78/2 after 8 overs.

22:34(IST)

HALF-CENTURY: Jos Buttler completes his half-century by taking a couple runs at fine leg with a paddle sweep. This is his fourth consecutive 50 and the Royals will hope he can carry on for a while too.

22:33(IST)

End of the seventh over for Rajasthan, and it is a good over for them as Jadeja is taken for ten runs. Buttler swatted him away with a reverse sweep to pick up a boundary in the over while a second attempted boundary was saved well by Ambati Rayudu and he managed only three runs for that. Royals are 67/2 after 7 overs and Jadeja is three overs down.

22:29(IST)

Dhoni brings in one of his pacers with Shardul Thakur for the sixth over, the final one in the powerplay. Thakur bowls a very economical over over to Buttler and Samson as he concedes only two runs. Royals are 57/2 after the 6th over as Dhoni gets set to spread out the field.

22:24(IST)

Good over for CSK once again as Jadeja dismissed the dangerous Rahane very cheaply. The left arm bowler conceded only seven runs and after having sent the opposing captain back to the hut, the pressure is back on the Royals who were not expecting this after a blistering start. Royals are 55/2 after 5 overs.

22:21(IST)

WICKET: Ravindra Jadeja gets some turn of the pitch that has Ajinkya Rahane bamboozled. The Royals captain is unable to handle it and is caught comfortably by Suresh Raina at first slip. Royals lose their second wicket very fast and are 53/2 in the fifth over.

22:20(IST)

End of Harbhajan's second over where Buttler once again easily picked him up for a boundary on the leg side before handing strike over to Ben Stokes. The left-hander was living on the edge, but managed to take 10 runs of two balls with a huge six, before Bhajji bounced back to go through the gate and have him clean bowled.

22:18(IST)

WICKET: Harbhajan Singh gets his man as he sends the middle stump of Ben Stokes cartwheeling in response to a 10 runs of two balls. Dhoni wanted his spinners to bowl to Stokes and it has paid off. Royals are 48/1

22:12(IST)

A much better third over for the CSK side as Ravindra Jadeja concedes only six runs. Ben Stokes had a tough time facing him in the over, before he took a single and handed the task over to Buttler. The right hander's inside out shot over the off-side got him yet another boundary in the innings after which he took a single to end the over. Royals are 32/0 after 3 overs.

IPL 2018, RR vs CSK, Match 43 Highlights - Rajasthan Stay Alive With Victory, CSK Stay Second in Points Table

PREVIEW: Rajasthan Royals (RR) will aim to keep themselves alive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) when they take on a confident Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium here on Friday. After a hat-trick of defeats, Rajasthan kept themselves afloat in the cash-rich league when they defeated Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 15 runs in their last game. The Ajinkya Rahane-led side, placed at the sixth spot in the points table with just eight points in their kitty, will need to come out with their best in a do-or-die game against the yellow brigade. Skipper Rahane will once again expect his team to get their act together and aim for consistency as they did against Punjab on Sunday. Rahane and Samson have been average while the inconsistent run of Ben Stokes has affected their performance this season. The live telecast of the IPL 2018 match between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings will start at 8 PM on May 10th (Friday). The match can be seen live on the Star Sports network and live streaming will be available on hotstar.com. You can also follow the match live blog for ball-by-ball updates, full score and IPL match highlight on cricketnext.com.
Stokes, the costliest buy in IPL auction 2018, has miserably failed to perform both with the bat and ball. Jos Buttler played a 58-ball 82 run knock to lift Rajasthan to 158 for eight against Punjab, a target which their bowlers defended. The English batsman has accumulated 320 runs from ten games averaging 35.55. Among the bowlers, young seamer Jofra Archer has done well to claim nine wickets from four matches while this IPL's costliest Indian buy Jaydev Unadkat has also been amongst the wickets. Spinner K. Gowtham, who has bagged eight wickets from ten matches, came out with an impressive performance in the last outing and will need to repeat the show as the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side has struggled against spinners this season. On the other hand, another win for Chennai will cement their place in the play-offs. The southern outfit is in red-hot form this season after seven wins from 10 games and will look to consolidate their position in the top two. Chennai batters are in top form however, death-over bowling still remains a concern. Most of the batsmen -- Ambati Rayudu, Australian Shane Watson, West Indian Dwayne Bravo, skipper Dhoni and Suresh Raina -- have contributed whenever the team needed. Rayudu has batted well both as an opener and at number four, amassing 423 runs from 10 games.
With 360 runs from 10 innings, Dhoni is placed seventh on the run-scorers list. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja, who struggled against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), emerged with a match-winning figure of 3/18 -- in a major relief for the team management. The pace attack will once again feature Lungi Ngidi, David Willey and Shardul Thakur.
Depending on their terrific form, Chennai will once again be the favourites in Friday's clash, though a desperate Rajasthan will look to come out all guns blazing.
