Man stabbed to death at residence, police suspect tenant

A 32-year-old man was found murdered at his residence in north-west Delhi’s Jahangirpuri on Friday night. The police suspect the involvement of his tenant, who is absconding.

DCP (North-West) Aslam Khan said that the deceased has been identified as Umesh Kumar Sahu, a vegetable vendor from Etah, Uttar Pradesh. “We received a call at 11.05 p.m. When the police reached the spot, Umesh’s body was found on the floor of his house with a severe head injury. There were 15-20 visible stab wounds,” said Ms. Khan.

The family said that Umesh had gone to Etah with his wife and three children a few days ago and returned alone on Friday afternoon. They added that his paternal uncle, who had come to check on him at night, was the one to discover Umesh’s body. “When he [the uncle] reached, he found the gate latched from outside,” said Mahipal Sahu, a relative of the deceased. Umesh’s body was lying face down with blood spilled in the entire room. The uncle immediately called the police.

The police have formed teams to look for the tenant.
