Indore : City crime branch on Saturday raided a house in Palasia area and arrested 26 people involved in betting. A sum of Rs 44,315 and betting slips were recovered from them. The accused were handed over to Palasia police station for further action.
ASP (crime) Amarendra Singh said that a tip-off was received that a person named Pappu is running betting racket near PWD quarters and many people had gathered there for betting. The team cordoned off the area and arrested 26 persons who gathered there to give satta slips to Pappu.
Crime branch team nabbed Suresh Goyal, Ajay Shah, Mohammad Javed, Mohan, Ashish Bhagore, Manoj Kaul, Nizamuddin, Punamchand Bhawar, Rajesh Tanwar, Ashok Saini, Dharmendra Singh, Narayan Soni, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Rahul Chouhan, Rakesh Sharma, Omprakash Birgade, Dhirendra Chouhan, Rambahadur, Rajesh Pawar, Bhupendra Rathore, Shahnawaz Khan, Chandra Thapa, Alok Jain, Ramcharan Kaithwas and Sitaram Solanki from the spot.
The accused told the police that Pappu operates the betting racket and they were gathered there to give him betting slip. During the police action, Pappu managed to flee in the crowd. A search is on for him.
Crime branch and Kanadiya police arrested three persons while they were running betting for IPL match on Friday night. One of the accused managed to flee during the police action.
Acting on a tip-off, team raided a house that belongs to Bharat Aidasani in Sarvsuvidha Nagar on Kanadiya Road and arrested Bharat, Prateek Borasi and Vikas Verma. The accused told the police that their fourth accomplice Mahesh Jinwal of Hiran Nagar fled during the raid.
Nine mobile phones, Rs 5130, LED TV, note books, calculator and the accounts showing transactions of lakhs of rupees were recovered from the accused.
During the investigation, it was found that they bought SIM cards using forged documents. Investigation is on in the case.
