Kenya: Sarit Centre Roundabout Blocked Off as Police Demolish Curio Kiosks

A heavy traffic jam built up in Westlands on Thursday morning after police blocked off the Sarit Centre roundabout to allow for the demolition of curio kiosks.

The traffic tailback extended to Lower Kabete Road and Peponi Road.

The demolition, executed under tight security, was ordered by Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura).

Most traders had moved out their wares after they had been issued with a notice in April, but the stubborn ones remained put.

According to former Patron Fred Musau, no one claims ownership of the land. He claimed there have been plans to grab it.

In 2016, Kura issued a notice for the demolition citing the redesign of two roads to ease traffic congestion on the route.
