Lalu gets 3-day parole to attend son’s marriage

In a much-awaited respite, RJD chief Lalu Prasad, convicted in three fodder scam cases, was given 3-day parole on conditions that he will come back to Birsa Munda Central jail positively on May 14 after attending the marriage ceremony of his elder son Tej Pratap on Saturday. Yadav, through an application written to Jail IG Harsh Magla, had demanded five-day parole to attend his son’s wedding.

“3-day parole has been granted to him with some conditions which he will have to fulfill during his stay in Patna,” said the Jail IG. He will have to be positively present here by May 14, he added.

As per the letter issued to Prasad, he will not attend any other function or programme other than his son’s marriage, will not interact with the media or not hold any press conference and will not misbehave with anybody during his parole.

“If he fails to fulfill these conditions, his parole will be cancelled and called back immediately,” stated the letter. A police team has already reached Patna, which will keep a close watch during his parole during these three days.

RIMS administration has also deputed two doctors – Dr Alok Tirkey and Dr Ashwini Kumar who will be with Prasad all time during his stay in Patna to provide medical assistance to him in the hour of need. Besides RJD MLA Bhola Yadav and Prasad’s personal attendant Asgar on the flight, he was also accompanied by two officials of State Police to watch him closely so that the conditions put by the Jail Administration gets fulfilled.

The RJD Chief was taken directly to the Airport from RIMS in tight security as all formalities by the jail authorities were fulfilled there and boarded a flight at Birsa Munda Airport of Indigo Airlines at 5: 55 pm. 

Earlier on Wednesday, the medical board constituted by RIMS administration, where Prasad is admitted on health grounds, declared his condition stable for granting parole to him.
