PATNA: In a surprising incident, one Renu Devi (45) was arrested from her residence at village
Ghuskipar under Khusrupur police station area in Patna on Friday for allegedly getting her son Mantu Ram (26) murdered by hiring contract killers. Mantu’s body was recovered from a taal area behind one Akash hotel under
Bakhtiyarpur police station area on morning of April 7.
Bakhtiyarpur police station SHO Deewan Ekram
Khan said two killers Dharmaveer Kumar (35) and Shravan Kumar (32) were arrested from
Teka Bigha under the Bakhtiyarpur police station area on Thursday night.
“After being interrogated sternly, they spilled the beans and told police that it was Renu who had paid them to kill Mantu,” he said. He said another criminal Pankaj Paswan alias Lulha (35) was also involved in the case but was evading arrest.
The SHO said Mantu was called at the spot on evening on April 6. “Dharmaveer, Shravan and Pankaj attacked him with sticks and rods. Later Dharmaveer inserted pistol in Mantu’s mouth and shot him dead,” he said.
The SHO said Renu was highly annoyed with Mantu as he regularly used to thrash her and forcibly take money from home. “He was also involved in theft, eve-teasing and had borrowed money from several people who were pressuring the family to return the money only after which Renu decided to eliminate her son,” Khan said.
He said Dharmaveer had initially demanded Rs 50,000 from Renu for killing Mantu but the contract was finalised for Rs 40,000. “Rs 20,000 was paid in advance,” SHO Khan said.
He said Renu is a daily wager and her younger son works in Delhi and Mantu had a wife and seven year old son. He said pistol used in the murder was also recovered by police.
Barh SDPO Kamla Kant Prasad said Mantu had been to jail in the past in an eve-teasing case.
