TDP State president K. Kala Venkata Rao performed the ‘bhoomi puja’ for Mahanadu, the annual conclave of the party, at Siddhartha Engineering College grounds here on Thursday.

The three-day conclave beginning on May 27 will be the fourth one to be organised in Vijayawada.

Three conclaves had been organised during party founder-president N.T. Rama Rao’s tenure.

Arrangements are being made to accommodate 250 people on the main dais at the venue. A certain extent is earmarked for conducting meetings and events such as blood donation camps and competitions. Representatives from both the Telugu States are expected to participate in the crucial conclave.

The party has constituted 14 committees to oversee the arrangements.

Roadmap likely

Chief Minister and party national president N. Chandrababu Naidu is expected to lay a roadmap for the party cadres in an effort to gear them up for the general elections in 2019. He is also expected to speak his mind on the reasons for parting ways with the BJP and the NDA.

The meeting is expected to deliberate on issues such as Special Category Status (SCS); promises made at the time of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh; and implementation of the A.P. Reorganisation Act.

It is also likely to discuss the development and welfare programmes implemented in the State in the last four years.

Issues pertaining to Telangana such as the party’s struggles for the welfare of the farmers and weavers are also expected to be discussed at the conclave.
