British Airways had to cancel about a dozen flights on its popular Abu Dhabi to London direct service at the commencement of Ramadan.
The cancellations commenced next week and would continue through the first week of June and are thought to be the outcome of problems with the Rolls Royce engines on its Boeing 787 Dreamliners that had compelled them to being temporarily taken out of service.
The website of airlines tells passengers that they would like to apologize as there were no direct flights for the route on certain selected dates that begin on 16th May and end on 6th June.
British Airways offers an alternative with a stopover in Bahrain.
But then this would cost about three times as much for the outward flight alone. As per the website, BA’s non-stop flight to London that is available on 5th June, but not between 2nd and 4th June is priced at Dh 1,238 in economy class for the Heathrow leg.
On 6th June and also other dates when direct fights are suspended, it soars to around Dh7,000 with a connection through Bahrain.
They include six dates in May.
A BA booking agent in Abu Dhabi might say that the flights had been cancelled for ‘operational reasons’. The direct flights of British Airways from Dubai are unaffected.
British Airways had largely been operating the Dreamliner on the Abu Dhabi route and has 26 of the aircraft in its fleet.
