National Press Club sells off a a bit of history this Saturday
Fancy owning a piece of the National Press Club?
It is holding a pre-renovation carpark sale on Saturday, May 12, from 9am to 2pm at its Barton headquarters.
The sale will be on the top level of the carpark, entry from Bourke Street.
Memorabilia, chairs, stools, plates, books, lounges and more will be for sale.
The first floor of the 1976-built Barton landmark is being renovated and extended at a cost of $2 million.
Work will start on Monday and is expected to take 16 weeks.
The club's CEO Maurice Reilly said it wasn't selling off its true memorabilia but there would be lots of bargains.
And a significant change with the renovation comes the end of poker machines at the club, with the eight machines removed and in storage waiting for a decision on their future from the ACT Government, with members deciding they need to do without them.
Mr Reilly also remind anyone coming to the sale that no earlybirds would be served so don't think of turning up there at 4am for first dibs on the plates that served all those journos and dignitaries.
The renovations won't affect the television national addresses but the restaurant and bar be scaled back a little.
