Volga Archery Academy chief coach ends fast

His name will be recommended for Dronacharya award, says SAAP Chairman

Volga Archery Academy chief coach Cherukuri Satyanarayana and his wife Ch. Krishna Kumari on Friday ended their indefinite hunger strike amidst hundreds of archers, politicians, sports administrators and well-wishers, with a promise from SAAP Chairman P. Ankamma Chowdary that he would recommend the name of Mr. Satyanarayana for the Dronacharya award.

Mr. Chowdary said the award was given in recognition to the services of a coach and Mr. Satyanarayana deserved for the award as he had produced dozens of top-class archers, both at national and international level.

“There is no dispute that Mr. Satyanarayana gave archery the all-important impetus in Andhra Pradesh and produced several international and national archers. Based on the requests of hundreds of archers and their parents I took a decision to pursue his case at the top level to get to the national recognition to him as a coach,” he told the media persons.

He said that Volga Archery Academy played an important role in winning medals in all India university level by preparing teams for Acharya Nagarjuna University, Krishna University, and University of Health Sciences.

Mr. Chowdary also promised to give his full support for the development of the academy and said he would look into all the achievements of the archers from the academy and get them financial rewards. “I will look into the ex gratia issue of late Indian coach Ch. Lenin,” he added.

CPI city secretary Donepudi Sankar , TDP leader Katragadda Naga Mallleswara Rao , SAAP officer on-special duty P. Ramakrishna and others were present.
