Trump meeting with automaker executives on fuel standards

Executives including General Motors CEO Mary Barra and Ford CEO James Hackett are meeting with President Donald Trump to discuss the forthcoming ruling on fuel economy and emission standards. "The President will hear from the automaker CEOs about the impact of the rulemaking on the auto industry and their efforts to negotiate a 'National Program' with the state of California," according to Lindsay Walters, White House deputy press secretary. The administration has proposed freezing gas-mileage rules at close to 39 miles per gallon. The meeting is the first joint trip by carmakers to the White House since January 2017, according to the Detroit News.
