Nearly two years since his son disappeared near Crawford’s Camping Park in South Beaver Township, James Freed is still looking for answers.

Ian L. Freed and his girlfriend, Elaine Daley, have not been seen or heard from since July 2016.

According to information posted in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, the couple was living at the campgrounds and were last seen in the area around the Fourth of July weekend in 2016.

James Freed was living in Alaska at the time of his son’s disappearance. He said Ian Freed had expressed an interest in moving from Pennsylvania to live with him, and planned to enter into an inpatient rehabilitation center in Alaska.

The last text Freed received from his son detailed his intentions to sort out some local legal issues he was facing and obtain the proper documentation to move across the country. But the conversation stopped there.

“I kept asking ‘son, are you okay?'” Freed said. Eventually, he asked what no parent ever expects to, and sent the text: “Are you alive?”

But he still has not heard from his son.

James Freed, who now lives in Missouri, said his family has never stopped working to find Ian. The case was initially handled by South Beaver Township police, but has recently been turned over to the Pennsylvania State Police.

The department is also handling Daley’s case. She, too, has not made contact with family, friends or police in the past two years.

“I want to find my son,” Freed said.

A volunteer search of the area around the campgrounds is planned for Saturday, he said. While he lives nearly 1,000 miles away, other members of Ian Freed’s family live in western Pennsylvania and are working locally to find out any information that they can about the couple and what happened to them.

Trooper Pat Thomas of the state police said officials are still seeking any possible information about Freed and Daley, including any potential leads that police can follow.

“Alls we want is just to find out, to find his whereabouts,” Freed said.

Ian Freed is a 33-year-old white male with light brown hair, brown eyes and a distinctive tattoo on his neck that reads “724” in blue. He has been known to wear his hair in different lengths and has a white patch of hair toward the back of his head.

At the time of his disappearance, Freed weighed between 140 and 160 pounds and was about 5-feet 7-inches tall.

Daley, who hails from Big Beaver, is 45 years old with wavy brown hair and brown eyes. She was known to sometimes wear bangs. Daley had cancer in her left leg and sometimes walked with a limp.

She weighed between 100 and 120 pounds at the time of her disappearance and was 5-feet tall.

Anyone with any information about Freed and Daley is asked to contact the Pennsylvania State Police at 724-773-7400 ext. 208.
