After his team took first place at the Seminole District Championship on Thursday night, Eddie Muse was an obvious choice for district runner of the year.

The Bulldogs junior won the long jump, triple jump and 400-meter run to take home the top boys honor. The LCA boys also received an individual win from Bryson Hunter (200 dash) and claimed the 400 and 1,600 relays.

E.C. Glass’ Theo Woods — who won the 800 run with ease — set a new meet mark in that race with a 2:01.89, besting the mark set by Craig Danner (Liberty, 1:58.23) in 2013. Woods also set a new district mark in the 3,200 with his 9:42.55, beating out Colby Hudson’s (Rustburg) 2014 run of 9:45.43.

Glass sophomore Jade Lane earned female runner of the year after she won the 100 dash, triple jump, and ran the anchor leg in Glass’ title win the 400 relay. Glass also won the girls side of the meet.

Lane set a meet record in the triple jump with her 37-04¼. The previous record belonged to Amherst’s Ashley Harris, a 36-11, set in 2007.

Glass senior Taliyah Wade eclipsed the meet record in the shot put by throwing a 40-05. The old record of 38-11½ was held by Heritage’s Lillie Read (2012). Jefferson Forest’s Gracie Jauch set a meet record in the pole vault with a mammoth 12-00, eclipsing a mark set in 2009 by Brookville’s Shelley Parker (10-07).

Liberty wins Seminole softball crown

The Minettes took the Seminole regular-season title in style, winning 15-0 over Rustburg on Friday night and getting home runs from Kacey Whorley and Machenze Flood.

LHS staved off Brookville earlier this week and entered Friday’s game assured of the title with a win. Rebecca Hensley added three hits in the win while pitcher Millie Thompson allowed just three hits and struck out nine.
