Toronto police looking for suspect vehicle after fatal daytime shooting

Toronto police are asking the public for help in identifying the driver of a white BMW believed to be involved in a fatal shooting in the city earlier this week.

Det. Leslie Dunkley says emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of a single-vehicle collision just before noon on Monday.

Dunkley says the driver’s injuries were consistent with gunshot wounds and the man was rushed to hospital without vital signs.

Dunkley says the victim, who has been identified as 38-year-old Christopher Reid, died in hospital Thursday and an autopsy concluded he died of gunshot wounds.

He says Reid’s vehicle, a black Hyundai Elantra, was travelling behind the suspect vehicle for some time before it stopped in the middle of the road and Reid pulled up beside it.

Police say they have been able to determine with security camera footage from the area and witness reports that the driver of the suspect vehicle, a late model white BMW X6, opened fire.

They say Reid’s vehicle travelled about 150 metres from the scene of the shooting before crashing into a fence and ended up on the lawn of a home.

Dunkley says witnesses or anyone with information about the suspect vehicle are asked to contact police.
