Rahul, Priyanka Vadra likely to attend Lalu Prasad’s son wedding on May 12

NEW DELHI Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Vadra are likely to attend the wedding ceremony of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad to be held in Bihar’s capital on Saturday (12.05.2018), said media reports on Friday.
RJD’s national general secretary and MLA Bhola Yadav told mediapersons that they had received confirmation of visit of both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra. He said many more confirmations would be received on Saturday. He said Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar would also attend the wedding ceremony of Lalu Prasad’s eldest daughter, though, both have severed ties. “How can ‘chacha’ (uncle) skip the wedding of ‘bhatija’ (nephew)?”, Yadav said.
Prominent among those who have been invited to the wedding are UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Bihar Governor Satya Pal Mallik, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and Chief Justice of the Patna High Court Rajendra K Menon and Yoga guru Baba Ramdev.
Tej Pratap Yadav will tie the knot with Aishwarya Rai, the daughter of six-time Rashtriya Janata Dal lawmaker Chandrika Rai and a cabinet colleague of Lalu Yadav in many governments.
“We are expecting about 20,000 guests from across the country. Invitations have been sent to almost every major political figure and luminaries from various walks of life,” Bihar RJD president Ram Chandra Purve said.
The hosts have invited 50,000 guests to the wedding ceremony at the sprawling veterinary college ground in Patna.
The gala event in Patna will see imported flowers from Thailand being used to decorate the stage while the main entrance to the venue will be decorated with Bihar’s Mithila painting. However, a day ahead of the wedding, gates of the 7, Circular Road residence were decorated not only with flowers but also lemon chilly to ward off bad omen.
Meanwhile, the Ranchi High Court on Friday granted a provisional bail of six weeks on medical grounds to Lalu Prasad.
On Thursday, the court had granted a three-day parole to Lalu to attend his son’s wedding in Patna on Saturday.
Prasad, 69, who has been convicted in three fodder scam cases by a special CBI court in Ranchi since December last year, is also undergoing treatment at the RIMS hospital in the Jharkhand capital.
