John Abraham leads a secret mission in Parmanu The Story of Pokhran trailer

Bollywood actor John Abraham unveiled the first trailer of his long-awaited film, Parmanu, on Friday afternoon. The film is about the first Pokhran nuclear test carried out by India in 1998. The film features John and Diana Penty in lead roles.

Sharing the trailer, John tweeted, “Salute to those maverick minds who powered us with nuclear strength 20 years ago today! For a glimpse of this incredible story watch the #ParmanuTrailer Now!”

The trailer opens with Boman Irani’s voice announcing that whoever takes up ‘this’ job will not get any rewards, medals or even designations. Soon, we meet John who explains why India needs to conduct these nuclear tests and then goes undercover with a team of military offices to ensure the tests are conducted properly, without any hurdle.

At two and a half minute, the trailer is just too long. While the subject is quite intriguing, the lengthy trailer makes it rather tiresome.

Directed by Abhishek Sharma, the film is about a team of officers who were given the responsibility of carrying out a covert operation.

Named Operation Shakti, the operation was carried out despite international pressure on India to not go forward with the tests. The event may not be discussed much, but it certainly put India on the course to become a nuclear power.

Parmanu- The Story of Pokhran is an ode to the Indian army and scientists, who accomplished truly extraordinary feats in the face of adversity. While the premise of the film is based on true events, the characters are fictitious.

Initially slated for December 8, 2017 release, the film has seen three shifts in the release date. It was first pushed to February 23, 2018, and then to April 6. Parmanu was expected to clash with Amitabh Bachchan-Rishi Kapoor’s 102 Not Out on May 4, but will now hit theatres along with Bhavesh Joshi Superhero that’s also releasing on the same date.
