At a time when there are many doctor posts lying vacant in the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla, the order of transfer of existing physicians from the premier hospital of western Odisha has led to strong resentment in different quarters of the region.

However, promotion of 16 doctors to different posts has been a matter of solace for the institute as the authorities did it independently for the first time after the institute’s autonomy.

Due to the recent promotion, six Associate Professors have been promoted to the posts of Professor and 10 Assistant Professors to Associate Professors’ posts. This is for the first time that the VIMSAR authorities have exercised their administrative power for promotion and also other matters.

Doctors, who have been transferred or relieved, belong to Community Medicine, Pharmacology, Ggynaecology and Skin and VD Departments.

After the promotion, five senior doctors belonging to OMES (Odisha Medical Education Services) cadre have been transferred to other places of the State. But the fact is that many doctors who have been relieved from the VIMSAR were either not doing duty or continuing to remain on leave.

But common people are not happy with the massive relieve of doctors without substitutes.

If the process continues unabated like before, then there is every possibility that the whole activities in medical may get crippled, apprehend people here.

“A massive dissatisfaction is now brewing and that may take form of a mass protest,” said Sapan Mishra and many others, who are fighting for the cause of the VIMSAR.
