Rickie Fowler was cruising through his second round at The Players Championship, and then he hit his tee shot at the par-4 6th hole.
Fowler was five-under par through 14 holes (he started his round on the back-nine) when his tee shot appeared to land at the top of a tree alongside the right fairway. The keyword there is "appeared."
Fowler used binoculars - and even leaned on a rules official for balance - to try and identify if it was, in fact, his ball in the tree. Because he was unable to prove that it was his ball, Fowler was forced to return to the tee and take a penalty.

Then playing his third shot from the tee after a penalty, Fowler found the fairway and then reached the green with his fourth shot on the approach. He would two-putt from there for a double-bogey, dropping his overall score to 1-under for the tournament. The projected cut line for the weekend at that time was 1-under.
After the debacle on No. 6, the wheels fell off for Fowler, who double-bogeyed No. 7 and earned par the final two holes to drop two-shots above the projected cut line.
