Virat Kohli may play for Indian cricket team in T20Is vs Ireland, could miss last Surrey game

Virat Kohli, the Indian cricket team skipper, might play in both the T20Is against the Ireland cricket team later this year, although dates for the same clash with Yorkshire’s match against Surrey, the county side he signed for a couple of weeks back.

India will take on Ireland in two T20Is on June 27 and 29, while Surrey’s county game starts of June 25.

While Surrey had announced that Kohli would play all the games for the side in June, a report on ESPNCricinfo, however, claimed that there was no commitment as such from the Indian captain.

The report further claims that there might be a small tweak in store if Kohli doesn’t get enough game time in the first two matches.

Shoul he not get ample time in the middle, he might stay back for Surrey’s third game and miss the T20Is. However, that scenario is unlikely given Surrey would want the batsman to feature from the very beginning.

Kohli had signed for Surrey in a bid to get accustomed to the English conditions before India’s scheduled tour in July. He’s also set to miss the Afghanistan Test on June 14, which will be led by Ajinkya Rahane.

Kohli had a forgettable outing the last time he was part of a Test series in England, averaging a meagre 13.4 as India went on to lose the five-match Test series 3-1.

Besides Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ishant Sharma, who were also part of that tour in 2014, are plying their trades in county sides Yorkshire and Sussex, respectively.
