DANBURY - Traffic has begun moving through the city after emergency officials cleared an overturned tractor trailer from Interstate 84, but motorists may not be out of the woods yet.
Traffic was backed up for miles after the accident, which occured around 7:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the interstate near Exit 4 just before the interchange with Route 7. The truck was removed from the right shoulder and the right lane was returned to normal operation around 11 a.m.
While the highway is now open, officials said they will have to close the right lane again later Friday afternoon to make repairs to a guard rail.
Besides the highway, local roads including Lake Avenue and Mill Plain Road were also heavily congested after the accident as motorists attempt to avoid the highway.
Crews with the Danbury Fire Department Engine 26 and Squad One as well as EMS reponded to the accident. Crews with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection also responded due to spilled fluid.
