Farmer attacked by robbers, dies in hospital

They snatched his wife’s gold chain

A 60-year-old man, who was attacked by robbers while snatching his wife’s gold chain on Wednesday night, succumbed to injuries on Thursday.

According to the police, Jayaraman, 60, a farmer and a street play artiste was riding with his wife Vijaya, 55, from Minjur towards Vellore village.

When they were on the Thiruvelavoyal - Anupampettu Road, a group stopped them.

They snatched Ms. Vijaya’s gold chain.

When Mr. Jayaraman resisted, they attacked him with an iron rod and knives.

As Mr. Jayaraman shouted for help, Arumugam of Sholavaram, who was passing by, rushed and tried to fight the robbers. But he was also attacked.

Jayaraman, Vijaya and Arumugam became unconscious and the robbers sped away.

Passersby alerted the police and rushed them to the Stanley Medical College Hospital. Jayaraman succumbed to injuries on Thursday morning.

A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
