Restrictions in Srinagar, Shopian

The authorities imposed security restrictions in parts of Srinagar and Shopian in the wake of separatists call for "peaceful protests" after Friday prayers to protest against civilian casualties in security forces' operations. Separatist leaders, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Ali Geelani, were placed under house arrest. Locals said no vehicle was allowed to move in and around the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar's Nowhatta area. The area has been sealed by placing concertina wires on the main roads.
