The Candlewood Lake Authority hired Aquatic Ecosystem Research to monitor water quality this summer for $14,850.

This firm was first hired to monitor the water quality last year when the executive director, who did the service in house, left. He now works at AER.

The lake authority sent requests for proposals to six firms, with four declining to bid though one asked it be considered in the future.

Mark Toussaint, chair of the watershed management committee, said the committee unanimously recommended the authority award the bid to AER. The authority approved it Wednesday with George Linkletter opposing and John Hodge abstaining, according to meeting minutes.

Toussaint said some of these services can be brought back in house once the authority hires a director of ecology and environmental education.
