President Kirkman has been impeached.
ABC has canceled the political drama Designated Survivor after two seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Kiefer Sutherland-starring series earned strong ratings in its first season, but declined sharply in its second. Still, it was considered a high probability to return, and the Season 2 finale will include multiple cliffhangers. Kiefer Sutherland even said he was confident that the show would return for a third season.
But alas, the Season 2 finale will now serve as the series finale. It airs Wednesday, May 16 at 10/9c on ABC.
Sutherland starred as Tom Kirkman, a HUD secretary who suddenly became the President after a terror attack on the Capital during the State of the Union. His presidency is beset with crisis after crisis, including the death of his wife Alex (Natascha McElhone, who left to do a Hulu show called The First with Sean Penn). The show had a fair share of behind-the-scenes churn, and went through four showrunners in its two-season run.

So far this season, ABC has also canceled the dramas Quantico, Once Upon a Time and Ten Days in the Valley. Scandal came to its natural end last month.
