National Police Week begins Sunday
Law enforcement agencies in Flagler and Volusia counties will observe National Police Week, May 13-19, with activities to include memorial services honoring officers who have died in the line of duty. Here's the lineup:
- Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard is attending National Law Enforcement Memorial Service in Washington D.C. the week of May 13.
- Multiple Volusia deputies will participate in Police Unity Tour in Washington D.C., a 300-mile bike ride that leads to the capitol where more than 2,500 officers from around the country will gather to honor law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.
- The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is planning a candlelight vigil at 7:45 p.m. Monday to honor officers who have died in the line of duty. It will include a memorial walk lit by blue candlelight that will begin promptly at 8 p.m. at the Flagler County Courthouse and end with a ceremony at the sheriff’s Operations Center. All are welcome to participate.
- Many Volusia County deputies are expected to attend a Law Enforcement Memorial Service beginning at 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 18, at Lohman’s Funeral Home, 1423 Bellevue Ave., Daytona Beach.
