AHMEDABAD: A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Gujarat high court against parking charges being levied by malls, multiplexes and commercial complexes.

A bench of Chief Justice R Subhash Reddy and Justice VM Pancholi has issued a notice to the Surat municipal corporation after hearing the PIL. The next hearing would be held in the month of July.

Surat resident Sanjeev Izava who filed the PIL argued that many commercial buildings have been constructed in the city without any parking facility.

"Some builders don't include parking space in the structure and take financial advantages as they don't have to pay any tax for the parking space. Despite parking area not mentioned in the FSI, they charge Rs 30 to 40 for parking, which is illegal," the complainant said.

The PIL applicant has also quoted an information sought through an RTI from CGDCR. According to it, no commercial complex can collect parking charges.

The applicant said to avoid parking fee, people park their vehicles on roads which often caused traffic jams. He also demanded proper guideline from the govt on this issue.
