Rajinikanth fans disappointed as idol keeps cards close to chest

Fans of Tamil matinee idol Rajinikanth were in for a disappointment on Wednesday as the matinee idol stayed away from mentioning about his political plans in a function held to release the audio track of his upcoming film “Kaala”.

A record crowd including some of the top Kolywood stars were in attendance to be part of the meeting. Nearly 8,000 volunteers and office bearers of Rajinikanth Fans Association were issued special passes and they did not disappoint the Thalaiva(as Rajinikanth is addressed by his fans).

Though the audio track of the film was released, Rajinikanth did not make any mention about his political plans. The only consolation for the fans was the announcement by the star that he would be meeting the office bearers of his fans association on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, S Gurumurthy, Tamil Nadu’s leading political commentator and chief editor of Thuglaq told journalists at Chennai that Rajinikanth is the person people in the State are waiting to lead them. “He has the charisma, honesty and the people’s acceptability to be the Chief Minister of the State. I am sure people would endorse him as their leader. Rajinikanth has studied the State well unlike politicians of other parties in Tamil Nadu,” said Gurumurthy.

Gurumurthy, a leading chartered accountant, said that Rajinikanth’s entry into politics would result in a tectonic shift in Tamil Nadu politics. “People who were voting for the AIADMK (anti-DMK voters) as well as the anti-AIADMK voters would vote for Rajinikanth,” he said.

On Monday, MDMK leader Vaiko, who has sworn that he would work to make DMK leader M K Stalin the chief minister of the State told a public meeting that Rajinikanth is honest. “Rajinikanth is a clean and honest person. But I can never tell the same about Kamal Haasan, leader of the Makkal Neethi Meiyam,” said Vaiko while addressing a public meeting held to project Stalin as the Chief Minister of the State. Tamilaruvi Manian, leader of Gandhi Makkal Aiykan, a NGO and who is a close associate of Rajinikanth had told this newspaper that Rajinikanth would make the announcement about his political party at the appropriate time. “It is his prerogative. We should not jump into any conclusion. I can tell you with full authority that Rajinikanth would make the right announcement at the right time,” said Manian.
