SYCAMORE – In part because of a lengthy criminal history that includes 10 prior felonies and 9 Illinois Department of Corrections sentences, DeKalb County Judge Philip Montgomery set bond at $100,000 Wednesday for a Sandwich man accused of selling cocaine.
According to court records, David L. Cook, 58, of the 200 block of Boulevard Street in Sandwich, told police after being arrested for delivering less than a gram of cocaine to a police informant that he had been selling the narcotic because he needed the money.
Cook, an admitted street gang member, had delivered cocaine to a confidential source twice in May and delivered three grams to another person on his street in January, according to court records.
He was charged with three counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a Class 2 felony punishable by three to seven years in prison.
The DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s Office requested that Cook’s bond be set at $200,000.
Conflict attorney Bob Nolan said that his family would be able to raise $2,000 for bail and asked that bond be set at $20,000.
Montgomery said that most of the charges on his record were pretty old, but still set bond at $100,000. Cook would also be placed on electronic home monitoring if he posts $10,000 cash to be released.
Cook will be due back in court at
9 a.m. Friday for a bond reduction hearing and at 9 a.m. June 8 for a preliminary hearing.
