Extremists torch 9 vehicles including JCB machines

A group of suspected armed extremists raided the Bandh village road construction site under Pirtard police station on Tuesday night and after threatening the labourers, they torched 9 vehicles including 3 JCB machines engaged in road construction work, Giridih Superintendent of police S.K. Jha said.

The Giridih SP said on Wednesday, no one was reported to be hurt in the incident and the incident took place late last night between Khukhra and Pirtard near Bandh village. After torching the vehicles, the Maoists fled into the forest, he said

On getting information about the incident, a police team was immediately rushed to the spot which found the vehicles, including trucks, constructions machines and JCB burnt, he said. A search operation has been launched in the region to nab the ultras involved in the incident. The extremists are reportedly opposing road construction in the area being to nab the ultras involved in the incident, the SP added.

Under the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) scheme, a road is being constructed between Khukhra and Pirtard, located around 30 kms away from district headquarter.

Suspected Naxals also allegedly threatened the workers to stay away from construction works before fleeing from the spot ,he added .A police team visited the spot this morning ,the SP said adding a combing operation in underway.

Jha said that police did not receive any pamphlet or banner from the spot  so they could not confirm that whether it has been done by rebels or local criminals.
