No shortage of water this summer: Hry Min

Haryana Minister of State for Public Health Engineering, Banwari Lal on Wednesday claimed that during summers, there would no shortage of drinking water in any area across the state.

In case, there would be shortage of drinking water in any area, it would be supplied through water tankers. Apart from this, 342 tubewells would be installed at different places in the state, said Banwari Lal, while presiding over a meeting with senior officers of the Department to review various issues of the Department including summer and flood preparedness.

He said that Department has already issued instructions regarding summer preparedness in advance for the year 2018-19. As many as 933 tankers have already been supplied during the year 2018-19 till date.

He directed the officers that water tankers be supplied in the area where there is problem of drinking water due to various reasons in consultation with District Administration. Senior officers of the Department are also directed to visit in the field frequently and check summer preparedness in various regions of the state. In case of any deficiency, the same should be rectified immediately, he added.

The Minister said that all complaints regarding drinking water supply especially in summer season should be given top priority and resolved in minimum time. Public should not suffer for drinking water on any account.

Complaints being received online through ‘Shikayat Nivaran Kendra’ should be monitored regularly and it should also be ensured complaints are attended within stipulated time. So far during the year 2018-19, 2025 complaints out of 3706 received complaints have already been redressed, he added.

Banwari Lal further said that drinking water supply in the state is provided through canal based water works and tubewells based water works. Canal based water works are provided in the area where underground water is not potable and tubewells are provided in those areas where underground water is potable.

He also asked the officers that some water tanks were in open and arrangements should be made to cover them so that nothing could fall into these tanks.

The Department had launched water conservation campaign on May 16, 2017 and the same is still going on. Under this campaign, activities such as door to door visit to identify leakages and insanitary connections, sanction of new water connection and awareness among people were being carried out.

During this period, 9,69,082 household in 2103 villages were covered in the state and 45,198 taps were installed, he said.

The Minister said that 1,50,400 water connections were sanctioned and Rs 9.40 crore was collected in the form of revenue. Also, 4260 illegal connections were disconnected, he said.

During the meeting, he also directed that filling of all storage and sedimentation tanks on canal based water works should be ensured during canal running period and proper liaison be maintained with Irrigation authority as well as District Administration. In case any problem is faced, the same should be brought into the notice of high authorities, he added.

Testing of water samples in rural and urban areas should be monitored closely and fortnightly reports be sent laboratory wise. In case any sample is found failed, all precautionary measures should be taken and re-sampling after rectifications of defects should be done to ensure safe drinking water to public, he asked.

The Minister further directed that stock of the flood preparedness should also be taken during field visit and it may ensured that pumping sets are in working condition and sewerage and storm system are being cleared in advance.

Banwari Lal  has also urged the people not to waste water and conserve it. He said that people should not use water pipes to wash their vehicles and use wet cloth to clean it. They should use sprinkle irrigation and drip irrigation systems to ensure minimum wastage of water, he added.
