KOLLAM: Police have registered a case against certain 'unknown persons' in connection with circulating a fake message on the social media to spread fear and hatred.
The fake letter sent under the letterhead of the Kerala Police has a forged signature of the circle inspector and a seal of the Kollam East Police Station.

Dated August 16, 2018, the letter said in view of the approaching Ramzan season, a large number of people with criminal background have been coming to the state from the northern parts of the country. It said during the past one week alone about one lakh people have reached different parts of the state, including Kozhikode, Kannur, Ernakulam, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram. The message warned against giving alms to them and said women alone at home should not even open the doors if they come. It stated that as per information gathered by the police, their primary aim was robbery.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, city police commissioner A Srinivas said the police have not issued any such alerts. He said such fake messages were being spread with malicious intentions and that the culprits will be identified and arrested soon.
