Chandigarh(Narinder Jagga): The Punjab Government will retire more than 13,000 Sarpanch across the State with honorarium of Rs 75 crore. The Government has approved the amount for Sapranchs in principle, who could not able to get it for the last four years. Rs 1200 are given as honorarium to the Sarpanch per month. Talking to Daily Post, the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa told that the case was pending before the Finance Department (FD) and now it has been cleared. The amount would be given to them in 2-3 instalments. Sources revealed that the honorarium may be hike after the Panchayat Election, while is scheduled for July of this year.The honorarium could not paid to Sarpanchs since it had been enhanced from Rs 600 to Rs 1200.After the demand, the CM had assured to release the it soon, while the High Court has also directed to the Punjab Government to pay it. The elections for Panchayats are to be conducted in the month of July, 2018. Minister said that Sapranch should get what they were entitled for. But the economic crunch put the honorarium behind. Few months ago, funds have been granted, which had been paid to the officers of the department. Sources in the department told that honorarium would not paid to those approximately 500 Sarpanchs, who have been found under scanner in the embezzlement of funds.
