The four-year-old male elephant calf died due to ‘heat stroke and congestive heart failure’ reads the report of findings of post mortem done on this calf on May 5 by a veterinary officer Chandon Dey, said field director PTR, MP Singh. However, the finding is not yet confirmatory one as viscera is for forensic examination but not for chemical examination report of which will take weeks to come here.

The post mortem report (A copy of it is with the Pioneer) goes on to read that the calf had severe pulmonary congestion. It had right sided cardiac dilation. It had also sub endocardial hemorrhage in the left ventricle. Its nasal cavities had mucosa, larynx and trachea had frothy exudates and liver was congested while the spleen was enlarged.

The findings on the stomach, small intestines and large intestines were silent on presence of water in the body of the calf.

The report reads that the stomach of this calf had multiple small erosions and haemorrhages in the epithelium of the stomach.

On the intestines both the small and the large the post mortem report read it was filled with gases. Some haemorragic signs were found in the intestines. Sources said the post mortem report read about ‘gases’ in small and large intestines but conspicuously silent on its water content if any there.
