Bhopal: Students suffer as official delay mess facilities

Bhopal: The students staying in the post metric hostels run by the tribal welfare department continue to suffer during their exam times as their superintendent failed to resume the mess facilities even after the verbal order of the officials.

“If the superintendents of SC/ST hostels were so intelligent, the hostellers would not have staged a protest”, divisional commissioner Bhopal, Seema Soni told Free Press. Their mess facilities were stopped from May 1 following the policy taken by the department to run the mess for ten months.

This impractical decision forced the students who are bound to stay in hostels till their exams to stage a protest on May 7. The protest seemed to have reached its logical conclusion when the officials who visited the protest site told all the post-metric hostel superintendents to start the messes by whatever funds they had in their accounts.

However, only the hostel in Shyamla hills has resumed the mess service. Lack of mess is a small part of the bigger mess. The students staying in post-metric boys hostel in Indra Puri told Free Press that their mess remained close today. Problems of sanitation, water scarcity and lack of other basic amenities mar their stay. They also accused the superintendent of carelessness and said that he rarely visits the hostel.
