Akbar Road ‘renamed’ Maharana Pratap Road

The signboard of Akbar Road in Lutyens’ Delhi was defaced with a poster that read ‘Maharana Pratap Road’ on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on the 478th birth anniversary of the Rajput king who fought against Mughal Emperor Akbar.

The Delhi Police have filed an FIR on a complaint by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

In the complaint, filed by an assistant engineer, the NDMC said that during daily inspection, staff found that “some miscreants” had pasted a poster reading ‘Maharana Pratap Road’ over the sign for Akbar Road.

“It is creating inconvenience to the public,” the complaint added.

Shortly afterwards, the police removed the poster from the road sign.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Madhur Verma said: “The NDMC has lodged a complaint. We have registered an FIR under sections for defacement of property. We are scanning footage of CCTVs installed at the road to identify the perpetrators.”
