West Bengal panchayat elections on Monday, counting on May 17

KOLKATA: West Bengal panchayat polls is going to be held on Monday. The state election commission has issued a fresh notification on Thursday that polls will be held in between 7am and 5pm on May 14. The counting of votes will be done on May 17.
However, as ballots will be used so it will take time to complete the counting process.The poll process will end by May 21.

The counting will be done in the blocks. There will be counting at 330 blocks. The SEC notification said that for better management of the counting of votes it will be done centrally instead of the practice of counting cotes at the booths.

However, the political parties are still not sure if the poll will happen and now they are busy with the last minute campaign. As Supreme Court on Thursday has quashed the e-nomination order of Calcutta HC, so the SEC has decided to go ahead with the polling on May 14 as per their previous schedule.

Kolkata Police personnel will be deployed in the panchayat polls along with civic volunteers to manage the shortage of armed force.

Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee said that he was happy with the SC order.
