Ford Halts Truck Production Due to Fire at Parts Supplier

Ford has announced that production of the F-150 and F-Series Super Duty has been suspended.

On May 2, one of Ford’s parts suppliers experienced a fire, which is currently impacting production of Ford’s pickup trucks. The fire occurred at Meridian Magnesium Products of America, and Ford says it accounts for less than a third of the volume of output from the affected Meridian plant.

The American automaker is working with its supply base to offset impacts of the fire, which has resulted in a shortage of die-cast components. The company is confident that any impacts will be short-term and is continuing to work closely with its suppliers to do everything it can to limit the impact on production.

For now, production of the Ford F-150 has been suspended at Kansas City Assembly Plant and will also be suspended at the Dearborn Truck Plant. F-Series Super Duty production has been halted at Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, but Ford does expect Super Duty production to continue at Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake.

Ford did not announce how long production will be down and says it’s “a fluid situation.”
