A brand new expo is bringing hot rods, classic cars, lifted and lowered trucks, Jeeps and other vehicles to Southwest Florida.

The Florida Automotive and Motorsports Expo — otherwise known as FAME — debuts Saturday at Six Bends in south Fort Myers. The expo was originally supposed to be a two-day event, but organizers have canceled Sunday's scheduled activities due to expected rain.

The event features modified cars, trucks and motorcycles; a custom-built vehicle competition; local and national automotive and motorsport vendors; a food truck rally with at least a dozen food trucks; a sound-system competition; and a Saturday night after-party. Sunday's Mother's Day brunch has been canceled.

FAME spokesman Paul King says he expects at least 200 vehicles at the expo. That’s fewer vehicles than other recent car shows in Southwest Florida, but King says the expo also features nationally known vendors such as Atturo Tires and their vehicles and displays.

Organizers hope to make FAME an annual event that gets bigger and better every year. “Southwest Florida just doesn’t have anything of this caliber,” King says. “We wanted to build something that can grow.”

The vehicles on display this weekend include a mint-condition 1967 Chevelle, a 1934 Ford Sedan and a 31-foot Toy Hauler RV painted to look like Tow Mater (the character from the “Cars” movies).

FAME is organized by Paradise Creative Group of Fort Myers Beach. King expects at least 3,000 people to attend.

The outdoor event takes place 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Six Bends' Top Rocker Field, 9501 Thunder Road, south Fort Myers. Admission is $12 (free for ages 11 and younger).
