There was plenty of competition around the high school tennis courts this season, including fierce battles at both the Five Star and District championships.
Here's where everyone landed when the dust settled:
FIRST TEAM
Eric Berenblit, FPC
Berenblit was a Five Star conference champion in No. 1 singles, and finished the season 9-2.
Gregorio Casella, DeLand
The freshman spearheaded a DeLand team that finished the season 12-1, and finished tied for second in the district tournament. Casella went 4-1 in conference regular-season play, 5-2 in district regular season and 8-3 overall at No. 1 singles.
Luke Paschal, Spruce Creek
The Hawks won their second-straight Five Star title this season, and Paschal's semifinal win over Seabreeze's James Vuille-Kowing was a big reason why. Overall, the Creek No. 1 went 11-7 this season.
James Vuille-Kowing, Seabreeze
The boys Player of the Year for the second straight season, the junior No. 1 went 13-3 in singles, and 15-2 in No. 1 doubles, including a Five Star title. Vuille-Kowing is now 43-7 lifetime at Seabreeze in singles, and a staggering 46-4 in doubles.
Collin West, Seabreeze
West capped off a stellar Seabreeze career with yet another Five Star title in both the No. 2 singles and doubles. The senior finished the year 14-2 in singles, and 15-3 in doubles. His career record at Seabreeze was 46-4.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Todd Palmer, Spruce Creek
The Hawks went 12-3 and narrowly edged out DeLand, 22-19, at the Five Star tournament for their second straight title. Palmer came out of retirement last spring, and had five of his players featured on this year's All-Area teams.
SECOND TEAM
Sebastian Buenner, Spruce Creek: Buenner, Creek's No. 4, went 15-1 this year, including a perfect 11-0 in the area.
Andre Cronje, Spruce Creek: Creek's No. 2 went 10-7 this season, with his only area losses coming to Seabreeze and Deland.
Daniel Cronje, Spruce Creek: Cronjie, the No. 3 for the Hawks, went 13-3 this season.
Marcus Fleishel, DeLand: The senior No. 3 went 12-0 in the regular season and suffered his only loss in the district tournament to Winter Springs.
Krish Talati, DeLand: DeLand's No. 2, the sophomore went 5-0 in conference regular-season play, 4-1 in district and 9-1 overall. He finished as runner-up in both district and conference tournaments.
