The European Space Agency is thinking about taking a trip to Venus. ????Although Venus is often considered as Earth’s evil twin, the ESA is considering a mission to our neighbor planet called EnVision. ????If selected as one of three new fifth medium class mission ideas, the agency has a planned launch date of sometime in 2032. ????Even though Earth and Venus are right next to each other and roughly the same size, they evolved very differently. ????Venus is currently covered with a thick toxic atmosphere due to a catastrophic runaway greenhouse effect.????The EnVision mission would analyze the planets current geological activity and its relationship with its atmosphere. ????The mission would also improve upon images obtained in the 1990’s by NASA’s Magellan spacecraft. ????A decision on the fifth medium class mission is expected to be made in 2021. ??
